The Pyrenees (Mountains of Northern
Spain) are centralized in Aragon
The word “Aragon”
comes from an ancient language,
older than Celtic (XIII century
B.C) and means region of water courses:
this gives an idea of the antiquity,
Pyrenean origin and the close ties
with water in our region.
|
It has 1,200,000
inhabitants, a surface area of
47,000 km2 and a population density
of 26 inhabitants/km2. Zaragoza,
the capital of the region, is
in the centre of the territory
and has almost a million inhabitants,
which gives an idea of the rural
de-population with extensive areas
of wild, unspoilt countryside.
The thousand-year old traditions,
product of this ancient history,
have formed a rich tapestry of
artistic and cultural heritage,
in an extraordinary conjunction
of sceneries.

The small town of Jaca is the
starting point for our fishing
programmes. A meeting point for
different cultures and civilizations,
it is situated in the heart of
the Pyrenees and it is a focal
point of the Way of Saint James.
At the head of the Aragón
Valley, in a radius of 50 km there
are 30 glacial lakes and more
than 15 rivers, as well as all
types of shops and services such
as a general hospital and train
connections, and all the guarantees
of comfort and safety required
for a holiday.

The river Ebro is the backbone of the
northern river system of Spain. The rivers
which contribute more than 50% of the
water to the catchment area belong to
the Aragonese Pyrenees, which in turn
constitutes the area in the middle of
the Pyrenean system and is home to most
of the sub-systems, valleys and 3000-
metre peaks.

These medium-sized rivers have distinct
characteristics
The source: typical high
mountain streams with large rocks and
rapids
Mid-section:
more comfortable fishing with alternating
rocks, rapids, pools and slack water
with an average width of 10 to 15 yards
Lower
reaches: slower water and up
to 90 yards wide. The rivers are suitable
for wading between 2 and 6 feet deep
and temperatures between 11 and 17 º
C.

Hidden in the high mountains around
2000 metres up, we find a large number
of glacial lakes accessible on foot
or by helicopter.
This option solves effortlessly
the problem of reaching the most inaccessible
fishing areas.
In all our high-altitude
routes helicopter transfers are included.
