The fishing season in Pyrenees

- 1 March – 30 October General
- 1 June – 30 September High Mountain

May to September is the best season for Dry Fly Fishing

July-August is the best season for High Mountain Fishing

Trout and Brook Trout

Average size river 1 lb – 2 lb
Average size mountain lake 2 lb – 3 lb

Number of catches between 10 and 50 per day for an average angler.

Barbel 

A very few fishermen catch this specie in Spain but if you like you can practise Fly Fishing with very goods results in the betters rivers for it inside Pyrenees.

Average size 3 lb – 6 lb

MANAGEMENT SISTEM

All water in Spain is public domain.

The Administration is responsible for fish management. It is necessary to have a licence.

The fishing beats are between 3 Km and 20 Km long restricted access where it is necessary to have a personal day permit.

Legislation is very strict and catch-and-release fishing is compulsory in most fishing areas.

SOME ADVICES

The most frequently used rods are 8 to 10 foot in gauges between 3 - 6.

For dry fly river fishing we recommend a 9 foot Nº 4 rod. Synthetic floating line TT. 8 foot trailers with a final tippet of 6X.

For lake fishing we recommend a 9 or 9’ 6” rod, lines of Nº 5-6. Synthetic floating WF line and floating transparent. 10 foot trailers and a taper of 6X to 4x
