The fishing was so good I stopped taking any more photographs on the second day! Every fish we hooked was bigger than the one before. On the last day my son caught a veritable monster!
The location chosen by SALVELINUS is renowned for the clarity of its waters and the quality of the fish in its two main rivers. The tributaries also provide superb fishing. Fishing is also excellent in the nearby lakes and enclosed waters.
Along the six miles of river that flows past the lodge there are countless fishing spots which can be accessed only by boat. These are rainbow and brown trout waters.
Just a few miles from the lodge there is a river, which is probably the only one of its characteristics in Patagonia. The river is justly famous amongst the anglers who fish there. This is what anglers call “a technical river” with its transparent waters, stunning scenery and trout that reach 28 inches.
“Feisty” and “selective” are two of the adjectives used to describe these trout. Anglers prefer nymphs coupled with floating lines and ultra long leaders. This is trophy trout water where there is a chance of that trout of a lifetime.
Anglers access the river from the banks and careful wading is the key to success.
This time of year is very productive; trout slowly shake off their lethargy and start to feed. The water level in the river is quite low so finding fish is easy and anglers concentrate on sight fishing.
The weather this time of year is mainly cold and quite rainy. The water temperature is still very low so hatches are far and few between.
Temperatures have risen and fish are more active so it is one of the best times to fish. It rains occasionally but water levels are still low and there are productive caddisfly hatches. These conditions attract local anglers
The weather is a lot warmer. Both the temperature of the water and the level of the water – due to snowmelt - have risen.
There is a wider range of food available for the fish.
These months are colder than the preceding months but the waters are still warm and trout put up a fight.
Large feisty trout make their appearance at this time of the year. Hatches are not so common and tend to occur at dusk. The days are short and cool, so the best time to fish is at midday or wait for the evening rise.
