2013-2014 & 2016 TRIPADVISOR CERTIFICATE OF EXCELLENCE
Fishing in the Pyrenees with Salvelinus
Fishing in Patagonia with Salvelinus
…we managed only two hours fishing yet we caught more than 40 trout from one and a half pounds to nine pounders on a 500 yard long stretch of bank!
Iván Tarín (Huesca, Spain)
This expedition is a journey of exploration to waters where no other lodge has operated up to now. The journey require hours travelling along the Southern Highway, Ruta 7 or Austral Road
SALVELINUS will be fishing in some of the most secluded waters of Patagonia´s last frontier, an area considered to be a jewel in nature´s crown. The fishing locations are situated on either side of the border between Chile and Argentina.
Members of the expedition should bear in mind that:
Where: XI region of Aysen, Chile
Accommodation: Fishing lodge, cabins plus base camps
Capacity: 4 anglers
International Airport: Santiago de Chile
National Airport: Balmaceda (Coyhaique)
Species: Brown trout, rainbow trout and possibilities of king salmon
When: End of October - April
Best time: December – First days of March
Trip lasts: 14 days / 12 nights
Fishing days: 7 complete fishing days
Wading and fishing from boats are alternatives to bank fishing. They both share a common denominator; the waters have hardly ever been fished so strikes are aggressive and fish take flies eagerly.
The expedition will fish five rivers of different size and structure.
The expedition will prospect different lakes and ponds featuring different fishing scenarios: drop – offs, banks with sight fishing and points of land.
SALVELINUS is a pioneer company here and has chosen this area of adventure because of:
The average weight of the trout caught ranges from 2 to 4 pounds but it is not uncommon to catch specimens from 6 to 8 pounds.
The best fly? Well, large attractors are the most successful on these waters.
Some of the waters that will be scouted will possibly be fished for the first time ever. Although SALVELINUS has prospected the region quite a few times there are still many waters left to explore.
SALVELINUS is now seeking out more remote locations and so it is time to seek out new waters by boat or on horseback. This enables SALVELINUS to reach those possible fishing locations, which are difficult to access with conventional means of transport
The first stop is a great lodge – large rooms and excellent cuisine. However, the stay is short and soon the expedition will be away because the lodge is halfway to our destination
The rest of the journey will feature:
Staying in cabins with:
Base camp with:
Upon arrival at Balmaceda airport, Coyhaique the expedition boards a 4x4 and sets off down the Austral Highway for several hours before crossing the border between Argentina and Chile.
Take part in an authentic expedition to discover the most remote areas of Patagonia
The journey continues until the expedition arrives at a lodge. There is some interesting fishing to be had in nearby waters. Then on to Patagonia´s last frontier!
After another six hours behind the wheel a ferry takes the expedition to a tiny settlement – so small it doesn´t even have a name! The expedition will be based there for several days during the daylight hours accessing waters by boat and on foot. The locations are mostly stillwaters , spring creeks and a small mountain stream with a population of good sized brown trout. Accommodation in cabins.
This is intensive fishing where few other rods have ever been before. Then to “Lago Escondido” or Hidden Lake. This is a very large expanse of water, which is home to a healthy population of rainbow trout.
The lake is fished from boats, which have been transported in on horseback under the expert supervision of the local gauchos who accompany the SALVELINUS expedition.
This expedition is limited to the summer months so as to try and avoid the worst weather. However, the weather in this area is difficult to forecast with any certainty.
